Is there any rules, guidlines, tips to making one before I start? I'm trying to use the last of my 3/4" MDF, but I think that might be too thick. I might put fiberglass on it, or just put upholstery on the wood. What would you guys recommend? And what steps can I take to keep it from moving? Brackets and bolt to floor pan?

Ugh, I have must misconstrued you guys. I guess since I noticed that 74 people have viewed this thread, there really is no challenge to making one... No insight to it; I will have to trial and error it. But hey, instead of another clueless guy like me posting on here, I'll just make a guide on how to make one. As I go I will document it, and when its finished, post it up on here...

i actually did a step by step but didnt feel like shrinking down all my pics and posting them...i might though if i feel up to it.

BTW did u search through the forum using the seach option at the top for consoles?

For mounting, i would suggest making a part of the console removeable. A cupholder, or glovebox or something. And then put a bolt in it, so nobody would know how it was on there. ALSO, get an extra long bolt, so you can put nut on it directly after the floor board, so it doesn't fall through when you take the console out! :)

I just finished a console for my f250. I used 3/4 mdf for the straight stuff and fiberglass for the contours. I tried to go simple and meke it appear somewhat factory. as far as mounting i made some steel brackets that bolted to my factory seat mounting locations. here are a few pics. https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=72022&PN=1

I'm working on my console for an 02 Accent, my basic idea was just to make a console that I could paint and modify, so I wanted the same type. I just covered it aluminum, soaked some f/g mat in resin, covered it in that, and that worked. one layer, popped it out, added more glass on the new one, sanded, sanded, sanded, sanded, promered, snaded, primered, repeated, painted, and done.

As for the response rate, it usually takes about 100 views for a posted reply, from what I've observed, but do make a documentary, this place always needs more, I'm working on one for my console and panels.
