sub box over rear deck

Hi my fellow audio fanatics. Well i am going to start a new project that i have never attempted but i've seen it.  I plan to build a sub over the rear deck and face the subs to fire tords my interior.  I would only some advice on how to get started.  Would i have to mold the box into the rear deck or can i actually make two pieces.  Any advice would help thanks guys.  Im so excited about this project it will be used on my honda. I've seen cars with a box design and ohh my God the rock spl's up to 150spl. well guys thanks again . Jose

hmmm.  Are you talking about blocking your back window by bu9ilding a box onto your rear deck?  Or putting woofers into the deck like the highs are?  i'm not too sure what you are asking here.  But ill try to help with ideas if you explain it to me :)Govenor of Jimcinati

The easier way might be to build a sub box that fits under your rear deck and then seal the front of the box to the rear deck and upper part of the back seat. This way the rear deck doesn't have to support the weight of the box, as it isn't strong enough to hold alot of weight. If you seal the box output, you won't have any sound leakage into the trunk. I have done the smae thing many times. Sometimes it is easier to seal it to the upper part of the rear seat and channel the sound through a trunk pass through. Cutting large holes in the rear deck isn't advisable as it seriously weakens the structure of the car and rear window. Make sure everything that even look like it could rattle or vibrate is secured or deadened someway.sparky

When putting any kind of woofer into your deck, shhh, in your trunk for that matter.  I would STRONGLY, STRONGLY, STRONGLY, advice cutting an MDF back plate.  Rear decks are prety much cardboard and carpet.  Put a layer of MDF on the bottom of that to give it rigidity, attatch the MDF to both the deck, and the surroiunding metal.  And you will have a very strong deck.  Without it, it will flex easier than butter man!Govenor of Jimcinati

IMO, to add said "beauty panel," i would build the box like you would.  Then, build a FG deck(for your beuty panel)  Put some foam between the two, and attatch it to your box.    Govenor of Jimcinati
