when making a fiberglass enclusure for my subs dose volume still play a role in building the enclosure like a wood box.

and if it does then do most people just not care when using fiberglass that the volume of the enclosure is wrong, does it make it sound better or worse

Volume will play a role in any enclosure it's just easier to calculate with a square mdf box. Most people will get as close as they can with the volume. They will typically measure it with the packing peanut method described in the sticky. Fiberglass enclosures are typically sealed which is far more forgiving than a ported/vented enclosure is with the size being slightly off. I'm not sure what you mean with sound better or worse. If you're still talking about volume then you will always want to get as close to the correct volume as possible however there isn't one correct enclosure for a sub it's all preference, but some do certainly sound better than others.

well that isnt entirely correct...a box with volume too large will allow the sub to resonate and distort eventually causing failure...unless your sub can be used in "free air" applications.

and second a box too small can cause the sub to overheat, also resulting in failure...

try to stay within .5 cubes of the specified volume...

a sub in a larger box tends to not need as much power as one in a smaller box, just a little something else for you to chew on..

but yes "most" fiberglass enclosures are sealed making the exact science of ported boxes not as necessary..

as for sound that is personal preferance..if you like sloppy distorted bass build your box bigger and if you like tight clean bass meet the spec or slightly smaller..
