Hello,
This may make more sense if you are familiar with Gen1 Extended Cab Dakotas...
They came with 5x7 Rear speakers but I want to put in some 6x9s HOWEVER the depth is too shallow to mount them... I wouldnt have a problem bringing them out some more but my main concern is on how I would build an enclosure that would mount solid to the inside of the cab (I'll modify the trim and it can be mounted directly to metal instead of just the plastic trim)... I just need some pointers because I've never made anything like this before...
Thanks,
-Jason

once again pictures would help...

but you will most likely have to build a spacer ring out of 3/4" MDF that should clear up your clearance issues...now you need to trim it out...build a ring slightly larger then the outter of the speaker, mount it on the factory plastic panel, directly over the speaker, that way you are sure it is centred correctly. you may want to router out the inner edge, possibly not it depends how closely your trim ring fits up to the grills for the 6x9..anyway once the trim ring is fastened to the plastic panel you can get some panel adhesive products to build up your panel much like you would if you were fiberglassing. sand prime and repaint it and you should be good..

i will get pictures soon... I was wondering, though... How much sound quality will I lose from taking my 6x9's out of wooden boxes and putting them back in the 5x7 stock location?

hey man i have the same problem as you. i have the 5x7 6x9 infinitys and they dont fit at all back there.
In the summer im going to take the panels out and push the speakers back so they can clear the grille. There is some speaker clearance issues but thats nothing a dremel can fix.
you got any pics of your dak? im looking for interior ideas.
