There are several ways to making a center console, but in truth there is no "best" way to making it. It's a matter of tastes.

The easiest center consoles are essentially an mdf box made to fit and covered with carpet, cloth, vinyl, etc. but this tends to be the most boring too (not always... if you are a good woodworker then you'll see some great things out there)

Next up is a mix of MDF and FG. Typically this consists of MDF for the sides and FG for the space in the middle allowing for more complex designs and more creativity.

Then for those with the creative juices flowing, Full FG center consoles allow for unlimited possibilities, but the most fg skill. Forming materials will consist of anything from expanding foam carved to shape, mdf cut to frame, and/or objects for imprinting (such as a plaster skull)

Prices will vary widely, but expect anywhere from $50(or less) to $200+ for the console plus the cost of components being put in (if any)
