led's on door lock and unlock

I am needing help on how to wire a dual led( RED / green) to come on and stay on when the doors are locked or unlocked. I would like to have unlocked be solid green and locked will flash red. I want to put power door locks on a originally manual setup( I do not have the kit yet) I was thinking of using a flashing relay for the red side, and a regular relay for the green side, but Im starting to get confused when I try to figure in the lock and unlock side of it. I am thinking it is just a momentary signal for both lock and unlock. How can I wire this up to where the unlock/lock momentary signal to turn into a constant 12v? I am no good at saudering/circuits etc, can this be done with relays only? Thanks!

Also could someone recommend what door lock kit I need to look for( number of wires etc) for this setup?

You will need to get a magnetic switch like the ones in the following ink, IT MUST BE a SPDT  (Single Pole double Throw) configuration.  You may have to go to a home alarm company to get one.

You will have to mount the switch to the door, and attach the magnet to the moving part of the door lock mechanism.   Radio Shack sells a 12 volt flashing red LED.  THey may also have a 12 volt green one.  If they do not have a 12 volt green one, they will have a green LED and a 1K 1/4 watt resistor.

Radio Shack also has Bi-color LED's so you don't need to have to mount a single red and a single green LED. You mount 1 LED and it changes color based on the polarity of the input. Bi-Color LED They also have a Tri-Color LED with a common Anode(negative) and 3 other legs of the LED turn on either the blue, green, or Red color based on where you place the signal. Tri-Color LED

Thanks for the replies! I think I have a different idea than using the magnetic switches. I found these on the site: https://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram21.html and this one https://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram52.html Once I get the kit, I can figure out which one I need to use. For the flashing red led I can use a flashing relay inbetween the 12v output and the led. There is another pic of a mechanical latching relay on the site but no idea where to get it. It is also on this page here: https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page4.asp#sppbdl I think that would be the cleanest setup. If im reading that right the 1st output could be red led and the second output could be green or vice versa. Probably 87a for the green led.

I did not look at the second diagram you posted, but with the first one, if you do not drive the car every day, expect a dead battery.
