subaru style lights on/off with ebrake

Hi everyone, I have a 2001 Volvo S40 that I have a custom HID headlamp/foglamp setup installed. For both aesthetical reasons and also to prevent the cycling of my HID gear when I turn my key from ON to START and back, I would like to use my hand brake to energize or interrupt them. What I do know is, there is one wire running to my e-brake and it goes to a switch that grounds when the brake is up/activated. I would like to use this switch if possible to keep this aspect of the install simple. To clarify, I would like my lamps to be ON when the brake is down and the switch is receiving no ground and OFF when the brake is up and the switch is grounded. I know this can be done with relays and/or by reversing polarity or whatever and I've done a ton of reading and can't seem to figure it out. I've got plenty of relays and wire to get the job done. Any help would be appreciated! Or if I've missed an existing topic on this, kindly point me in that direction. Thanks in advance.

If you have autolights that turn on with the headlight wire, you can connect a relay to break that headlight wire that's engaged by the e-brake. Per Audiovox, the headlight-lo wire is yellow at the headlight switch. You would connect the relay as follows - Pin 87 - no connection Pin 87a - one side of the yellow headlight wire Pin 30 - other side of the yellow headlight wire Pin 85 - connects to the e-brake wire GREEN / WHITE wire Pin 86 - to Ignition 1 (test which is the right one) Different places list Ignition as a different color, so you may want to test it. It should stay powered with 12v (or close) in the "on" and "start/crank" position of the ignition switch. Audiovox - Ignition 1 - Blue/Red Omega - Ignition - BLACK/ Pink Directwire - Ignition 1 - Blue/Pink The relay will only work with the key turned to ignition, regardless of the e-brake being up or down. When ignition is on, and the e-brake is up, the relay will be engaged and cut power to the headlight wire keeping your HIDs off. Once you put the e-brake down, the relay will disengage and the HIDs turn on.
