I have read several posts about HID bulbs. I want to put aftermarket HID (not the Xenon) bulbs into projector housings for an '05 Corolla. If I have read correctly the lower the number the brighter, and the higher deeper color. If this is the case, why do BMW, Lexus, Audi, Mercedes, and Acura like to run the purple color? In some charts I see the purple ranking upwards of 15000. Unless the are adding a coating to their housing or adding something in the balasts, how are they able to achieve the brightness as well as the color? I like the blue and purple, but already have a hard enough time seeing at night. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

Thanks... I also have a customer who has a 2001 Ford Taurus and she wants HID in her OEM housings. Will the HID work as well with the reflector housings, or worthless in a reflector setting?

HID, like other discharge types (eg strobe) are naturally balanced towards the blue/purple end of the spectrum.
As for the Taurus, HID lamps in the OEM halogen housings is not street legal- be it the US, Canada, or the EU. The light source is not located properly in the housing relative to the reflector, and it is a worthless and potentially dangerous setup.

6000K is the brightest and if you go upwards of that the color changes but doesn't get any brighter.
