ok heres what i did. i have a 1997 ford explorer eddie bauer. anyone that has a 2nd gen explorer(same body style as mine) when u have the lights on(parking only, or both parking and headlights) you notice that the parking lights are way more dim than the headlights. then when u signal, they get brighter(the brigher filament of the bulb is used for the signal.
well i wanted mine for a LONG time to be bright while im driving instead of dim. so i did some rewiring lol...in my corner lights there are 3 bulbs in each, but only 2 are used for the blinkers, the 3rd little one is just a marker light, doesnt blink. on the 2 blinker ones, there are 3 wires that are hooked to the bulb socket. major, minor, and ground. the major is the wire that makes it blink bright, and the minor is the wire that makes it just light up dim. i switched them, and now it lights up bright like i wanted, but now my blinkers dont work! i knew that the blinkers were going to light up dim(as opposed to bright like before) but thats not the problem. the blink all fast like im missing a bulb, and they only work with the lights off. if i turn on my headlights, the front blinkers dont work at all. this is what one of my friends told me, i dont know if its true or not.
in this sentence, he's referring to the Message Center in my center console(eddie bauers and limited's have them)
"It looks for a certain amount of resistance in the blinker circuit. You're using the low wattage filament on the blinkers, so there's less resistance, so the truck thinks you have a blinker out."
he also told me that he's rewiring his this week, and hes gonna do a write up, but im gonna be out of town, and dont really want to wait. he said his are gonna be bright(like mine are now) when lit, and then when he signals, its gonna go off/bright/off/bright/off....etc.(when it was stock it goes bright/dim/bright/dim/bright i think...)
this is how he said hes gonna wire his, but i tried it with one, and it didnt work, he said i prally did it wrong and just to wait for his write up with pics.
"Switch the factory wire for the parking lights(minor) to the blinker filament on the bulb. Then take the blinker factory positive(major) wire and hook it to the ground for the bright filament."
