Has anyone had spooky issues with the electrical system in the 2007 Trailblazer SS? I installed a set of HID's, relayed & isolated them, and have had to replace the ballasts twice. They are relayed as follows - term. 30 - +12v, term. 87 - output to HID ballast, terms. 85 & 86 to headlight plug +/-. Simple. Also the AVIC-Z1 sometimes does not see the XM anymore. If I reset the unit(Z1), the XM returns. Spooky. I wonder if there are some strange voltage drops and spikes in the truck?

It could be the way you wired your relay... swap your 30 and 87 terminals. Running your 12v (fused hopefully) through 30 could create a short if somehow through contact with the vehicle, that could cause some issures that could be more trouble for the vehicle. That could also be the source of your problem.

Also what HIDs are you using and what is their draw? If they draw more than 40 amps (or 400 watts) then you'll need a relay on each HID.

Next thing to do would be to check your voltage with the car running and with it off and see if there is a spike/drop.

Double Check the wiring on the Z1 as well and make sure everything is cleanly and properly connected.

Good Luck!

I am certain that there are no problems with the wiring, and the relays and wiring are from a PIAA 110w driving light kit (the PIAA relays are good to about 60 amps), I use these harnesses rather often, and this is the first problem. I am inclined to believe that the electrical system in the Trailblazer either spikes everynow and then or is so noisy that it keeps killing the HID ballasts, since I can not find any reason that this is happening.

What did you do with the daytime running lights?

If your truck has daytime running lamps as KartuneMan suggested, this is your problem. The Trailblazers use an A/C voltage to the lamps for daytime running lights and a DC voltage for headlamps on. You would need to bypass the DRL system altogether. One of my installer friends discovered this while trying to do an older Trailblazer for HID lights.
