My wife's new car (2007 Volkswagen EOS) has what appears to be 2 red LEDs in the overhead console that point downward and seem to work off the illumination circuit.
They give a low level red glow to the shifter area and the lower center console area.
I really like it and would like to do something like this in her old car that is now my project car.
Has anyone done this spot-beam sort of red LED lighting?
If anyone has, I'd like to know the specs of the LEDs (color, wavelength, voltage requirements and source).
Thanks,
Jim

You want the basic T-1 style led with a clear or water lense.  T-1 style is the round leaded led every one tends to think of.  For a tighter spot light get the tapered T-1s.  They are a little narrower at the top than the bottom.

Voltage, color, and all that good stuff isnt specific to the spot light affect.

If it describes the lense as diffused it will not spot light.

Here is a link to some on mouser
