I was hooking up my JL 10w6 in my trunk, haven't used it for a while and got a new car, so it was time to break it out. When I plugged it in and turned everything on, got a nasty noise coming out of it, sounded like crap. Went back to check on it, and the cone won't move in or out, just sticks where it is. May have gotten damaged during my most recent move, but I tried to make sure it was taken care off. Guess not. My question is, is this sub blown? Assuming so, is there anything I can or should do with it? Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like the voice coil has seized (melted or burnt). Time to send it in.

My w6 repair cost me like $300 - after I went to 3 different JL dealers before I found one that would even send it in for me.

Can't really send it in. It's probably 6+ years old, but I haven't used it in 4 years or so. Was just sitting in my basement and I wanted to use it again in my new car. No way I would pay $300 to save it. Guess it's time to buy a new 10 inch sub.

My guess is that the sub was dropped, jarring the motor and releasing the glues holding it together.  This means that the voice coil is being pinched by the top plate and pole piece.  Unfortunately there is no way to fix the sub even if you sent it in.  It will have to be replaced.  look at the motor and see if the magnet and metal parts look to be off-center from eachother.  To answer your question, if this is the case then no it isn't blown.

THank you. So the good news is it isn't blown, but the bad news is it is still unrepairable if I understand your post correctly.
I guess I'm in the market for a JL 10 inch sub in that case.
