I own the Pioneer deh-9600MP and it has a motorized faceplate. I am not sure if anyone has had this problem with this particular receiver or reciever with motorized faceplates in general, but the faceplate seems to be defective. The problem is that the faceplate constantly opens and shuts when the car is on and it will not stay in a closed or an open position. It makes a beep sound as if it is trying to turn on but then shuts off once the faceplate makes its first move to open. It constantly opens and closes until i turn the car off. I got so frustrated i just cut the power wire to stop this from happening. NOw i have no music and am wondering if there is something i can do to fix it or do i just need to bite the bullet and buy a new (non-pioneer) head unit. Please help a broke college student out!!!!!
Thanks for all replies!

If you decide to replace the radio (a good choice, AFAIAC) I have an Eclipse deck, that I just pulled to replace it with an Alpine. If interested, lemme know in a PM, and I can get ya all the nitty gritty.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Your radio has a defective ribbon cable.  It is the cable that connects the face to the motherboard.  The part number for the cable is CNP7913  The phone number to order it is 1-800-421-5080.  The part costs 15 dollars plus shipping.  If you have any mechanical ability at all, this is a very simple repair.  No soldering required.  All you need is a #2 phillips, a #1 phillips and a #0 phillips screwdriver.
