I have a 1994 geo metro w/ the 1.0 3cyl motor and the highest alt i can find is a 55 amp and I'm about to install my system in it but worried about it only being a 55 amp charge from the alt. I'll be installing 1 vr 401 crossfire 400watt rms mono amp, 2 12" pioneer subs, (running at 2 ohms) and a 1 Farad capacitor. I plan to do the "big 3" upgrade too btw. Am I going to have probs w/ the battery staying charged w/ only having a 55 amp charging system on the car?

Probably no more of a problem than getting the 3 cylinder powerplant to pull the extra weight of the amp, subs and box.

You will just have to try it and HOPEFULLY we can be just as impressed with the little 55 amp alternator.

An easy way to figure this out is like this. What size are the fuse on all of your audio equipment? Add all of them up. If its more than 75, I wouldn't recommend it. Here's why.
Per the MECP guidelines, you shouldn't run your alternator more than 120% of what its rated power is. This would equal 66 amps. Your fuses are the max current that your equipment can produce without blowing a fuse. Keep in mind there are other electrical components drawing current other than your audio system, and you won't be maxing out your system either, so you kind of have to make a guess. My guess would be around 75 amps for a max from your system. Lets say you run your audio system around 70% of what it can do. You would be pulling 52.5 amps of current from your alternator. Now that leaves you with 12.5 amps you can draw from other components to run your alternator at 120%.
Sorry if this is wordy or preachy but I figured I'd throw it out there.
