i am somewhat new to car audio, SOMEWHAT. i know when purchasing electronics esp amps you usually get what you pay for. i am in search for a mega cheap, mega powerful, efficient amp that wont over heat on me till i have a good 600+ to drop on an amp. i have been looking at brands like hifonics, power acoustic, quantum, and drive db. any positive or negative feedback on these brands would be greatly appreciated! i currently have 4 10" 4 ohm sony explod-dont laugh- these walmart bumpers are pumpin 130db off my junk sony 1000w/400rms 2 channel in my busted up beater that literally has giant holes in the roof, and trunk bottom, this thang hold no pressure! my big complaint is that a/b get hot and shuts off, FAST, of coarse im no where near easy on it! i am looking for a cheaper class d with at least 1000rms, preferably 1ohm stable, possibly in the 200$ range. something to hold me over till i build my new system and replace them sony with cerwins stroker 2! PLEASE HELP!!

Since you are mentioning that it is getting hot fast... I am inclined to think that you have the system wired up at 1ohm (all positives and all negatives run together) I've done quite a few installs with the Sony XM series at 4ohms and the clients are fairly abusive to them, but the amp only becomes warm at best.

The sony amp is not meant to do sub-4ohm work (<4ohm) and if you read the fine print, that actually voids the warranty.

Try rewiring the subs to give a 4ohm total load. That should take care of the heat issue. Also since you are on a fairly tight budget, look into the Sony XM2002GTR amp 500w/1200w at 4ohms bridged.

Wire up 2 subs so that the positives and negatives are tied together. Same with the other pair.

Then for Pair 1 attach the positive to the positive on the amp
Pair 1 negative to Pair 2 positive
Then Pair 2 negative to the negative on the amp.

This will create a 4ohm setup that your sony amp will be happy with and not get hot-headed about (sorry... had to)

As for your db, I won't laugh. I have a friend in Alabama running 2 sony 12" in a sealed box off a Sony amp (his sponsor) and in his 89 S10 he's easily hitting 135-140db. Last I heard it was 138.6(not 100% sure) during a local SPL contest. His system is tuned for street bass, but that is still impressive for SPL bass. (Lucky brat also scored 4 PS3-60's with four 20" monitors before they even released to the public. He's building up a full sony sponsored truck using a bed-mod we designed for him.)

For $200, unless you get it off of ebay or something, retail you're not going to get much more power out of an amp. If anything, look into places selling Kicker ZX series amps. Kicker is getting ready to release full scale their new 2008 line of amps, so lots of places will be clearancing the older stuff... don't worry... with the exception of the new Warhammer, the 08 line (vs the 06 line being cleanced now) the changes are almost purely cosmetic. Most users will not notice too many differences between the 2006 and the 2008 line.

If you have a Circuit City nearby, look there first. I went to one local to me and they had the 06ZX10001 (1000rms at 2ohm) for only ~$329. Needless to say, I bought the last one as well as the 350.4 and their 700.5. My partner bought the remaining 750.1s in stock for $260 each.

If you are also looking for new subs, look into their L series. The changes are purely cosmetic, but again clearances will save you some $$$. I saw the 10" L5 sub in a truck box for $210 and the 12" in their standard vented box for $309. The Comp, CVR, and CVT series as far as I am aware will remain the same since the current models were just released beginning of 2007.

I don't have any information on their speakers off the top of my head, but you never know.

I've worked with Hifonics directly before and I have been fairly satisfied with the Hifonics. I cannot fairly say anything about the other brands since I have not had enough personal experience with them to offer a fair opinion.

first off thanks for the reply. and as far as my wiring goes  im running a 4 ohm bridged setup, i used the wiring wizard on rockfords website, and it is wired accordingly to their diagrams, if i had that amp wired at one ohm it would pop the fuses in about 30 seconds. it has a minimum of 4 ohm bridged, i did at one point run it 2 ohm stereo, but again the same problem and didnt sound as good, ive got the amp all the up, if i would turn it down it im sure it wouldnt over heat. its an 80 dollar refurb offa , you guessed it ebay. i am a big ebay shopper due to the lack of stores where i am from. ebay does have a lot of amps on there 200 and less including the hifonics bxi 1206d, any familiarity? ive never heard of any of the brands i asked about before and am finding little feedback if any online. i have a lot of friends who are into big systems in my area that helped me kinda get my start. my main buddy i call if i ever have a problem, fixing someone elses for them, cuz i can tear down and re assemble my whole system in prolly and hour, pretty familiar with it, he had 3 jl 12s hooked up to a ppi 200 in his callay and puched out a 165.4. everyone round here get at least 140, but even if i up my power given my vehicle i dont think i can build the pressure. if you have any experience with that hifonics amp i would sure like to hear bout it! thanks a bunch!
