Help!! I run a theatre company and I have a big 80's ghetto blaster that I need to beef up. I got a head unit and big speakers and a 12v 12ah battery. The unit flashes on and off when I connect the leads but won't stay on. I have no idea about power supply but do I need a larger amount of ah to power the unit. I'm trying to minimise weight and size of the power supply because the ghetto has to be portable, just like the 80's breakers were!
all help appreciated

Although I can't fully picture your scenario, 12 amperes isn't a whole lot of current when you're working with only 12 volts.

P = I X E, in this case 12 amps times 12 volts = 144 watts.  You may need more like 1000 watts depending on the size of your venue, speakers, etc.  The ghetto blasters of the 80s powered tiny speakers and were heard in a limited space.  You will need to rethink the total portability factor.  House voltage is 220, isn't it?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
