Hi All

My daughter just bought a really, really basic car (perodua kalisa), that didn't even have a radio as standard !!

She sais she doesn't particularly want a radio, just some way to plug-in her ipod (I believe there are two front speakers fitted).

I quite like the minimalist idea of building a little box with a small amplifier inside (driving her speakers) and a single volume control on the front - along with a fly-lead that would plug into her 3.5 mini-jack ipod headphone socket.

I looked through Maplin today and they've 7W, 30W, 40W £ 200W car amp kits but only mono.

My questions are 1) can I buy such a thing cheaply off-the-shelf? 2) what wattage would be appropriate? 3) does anyone know where I could get a suitable cuircut-diagram for a small 12v sterio amplifier?

thanks

Any stereo amplifier rated 20 to 30 watts per channel would be MORE than adequate for that purpose.
They exist, and you would probably save quite a bit of headache by just purchasing off-the-shelf, rather than building, as you have already suggested.
For REALLY basic try that one. It's about as cheap as you can get, and while not superb fidelity for running pair of OEM speakers, from an iPod, it'll be perfectly serviceable.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Sure. I'd say that one would do as well as the one I suggested. Go for it!
