I have a very old JVC deck that I just installed in my 2008 Mazda 6. I have a nasty whining noise when the car is on. I have narrowed this noise down to the antenna. When I disconnect the antenna from the back of the deck the noise goes away. Anyone have a thought as to how I can cure this little nuisance.
Thanks in advance.

I would have to do a little bit of experimenting with the grounding of that deck to solve the noise problem, but essentially the trouble you are experiencing is ground loop.  When the antenna is connected, the deck is being ground to chassis to at least two different planes.  The difference in potential between those two (or more) planes is causing induced engine noise which you hear through the speakers.  Solving the problem entails that you ground the deck to only one point on the chassis.

You have a correct wiring harness for this deck?  And, is there also an aftermarket amplifier involved?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Yeh I have the metra turbokit which metra assured me would work for an 08 model mazda 6. Everything needed to install was included including the wiring harness. Now there was a piece that the install kit said to pull off the stock radio which i did and then plug it into the back of the metra kit, but the pins were different. When I hooked the turbokit into all of my factory wiring everything seemed to work so I didn't worry about it. Another funny thing about the radio is my local radio station reception is horrible everywhere except in my garage with the door closed. In that particular instance I can get every channel perfectly. I'm at a loss other than just assuming the HU is so old that its causing the issues.

I didn't notice you asking about an aftermarket amplifier. Yes my JVC HU goes to a 5 band EQ which I'm using to produce 3 sets of rca's from the 1 set coming off the HU. From there it goes to my sub amp and mids/highs amps. Mmats sub amp and Memphis for mids/highs. Disconnecting any of the rca's and things of that nature does not make the whine go away though.
