opening the trunk

does anyone know what happens to the sound when you open up the trunk? the thing is i have 2 12 alpine x's  ported and they hit pretty hard when the trunk is closed but once i open it up it sounds all wrong.  is this right? anyone have this problem?

it doesnt make sense though, i go to car shows all the time and ive herd bangin systems with their trunk open.
