I own a 2009 RX-8 with a stock head unit and two Apline SWR-1042D subs which I plan to install. Keeping this post short and to the point, I'd like some suggestions on what amp to get for it. I'm going to need to push at least 1000 watts at 1 ohm, and want the sub to be rated 1 ohm stable. Since I'm going with a stock head unit and no plans to upgrade in the future, I figure it will be easier to select an amp with speaker level inputs than to choose one using RCA level hookups and a Line Output Converter. That being said, I don't want to center a solution around a costly LOC.
Any advice on which path I should take, and what LOC I should use would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You want a 1000 watt subwoofer system and a stock head unit?  Do you plan to upgrade the factory main speakers and add an amp for them?  If not, there is no way you'll be able to hear the music over the subs if you max them out.

I haven't decided what I want to do about the stock stereo just yet. Unfortunately with my car, the stock head unit is tied into the HVAC controls, so any method of adding an aftermarket head unit is either pretty pricey, or in the works (and still not cheap), the only "thrifty" options are to install the aftermarket unit in the glove box or something, which isn't something I'm interested in. The car is a lease, and I haven't decided if I intend to purchase it at the end of my payments, but with the amount of miles I've been putting on it, likely will. Basically, I just got the subs at a great deal, and figured in the future when I have the dimes to drop for a full audio revamp, I can. As it stands though, I ant the optimal equipment for these subs, as I don't want to purchase something just to get by right now, then have to buy a new one in the future.

I'd recommend installing those speakers in about 1.25 cuft each (if you can fit that into an RX8) that is ported @ 36Hz, and wiring at 8-ohms each (4-ohms to the amp) then get a good quality amp in the 400-500 watts into 4-ohms range.  What is your amplifier budget?  As far as using an LOC, they are cheap and usually a better solution than using high-level inputs on amplifiers unless you purchase a very high-quality amp.  You may find you need more than an LOC, however, to properly integrate a subwoofer amplifier with the Mazda head unit.  You may need something like a JL Clean Sweep.

"I'd recommend installing those speakers in about 1.25 cuft each"
I've already built some sealed stealth boxes at about .65 cuft as per specifications I read both through Alpine and Crutchfield -- but I appreciate the suggestion.
As far as the rest of your recommendations go, I'm really open to suggestions. I've done lots of research, but I'm still a complete novice in mobile audio. All to most of my selection criteria thus far has been based pretty much entirely on reviews I read and recommendations I receive from friends, associates, and other forums.
Nobody ever felt inclined to tell me that 1000 watts would overpower my factory sound, but if you know that to be the case, I could start to look into different options.
As I stated previously, this all started because I got the subs on a deal, and decided I would build the system around them. From everything I read, that's not a great way to start, but that's the boat I'm in. Eventually, I would like to hit the max RMS on my subs, if that requires an aftermarket speaker system down the road, I'll work my way into it.
Currently, I just want the subs to start kicking. If you suggest I temporarily get a less powerful amp and upgrade it in the future when I do have aftermarket surround, I'm open to the idea. Similarly, if you think I should get an amp powerful enough to blast them, but run it at a lower gain, that was my plan from the start. Getting a Clean Sweep or LC6i was the route that I was specifically trying to avoid, simply due to trying to keep costs down. I know that cheap LOCs work, I know people who have used $15 PAC LOCs. I just don't know how they would perform.
Really, I guess I'm open to complete suggestion. I'm setting my amp budget around $400 based on the prices I've seen on
Techronics The "best" recommendation I've been given so far is to use a Hifonics TXi 1008D through a Scosche SLC-4
Thanks for the help. Please keep the advice coming.

ADD (Since I can't seem to edit my post as a rookie member)
The only reason I was looking for a 1ohm stable amp was because it was recommended that I wire for a 1 ohm load. I'm aware that this can also be done at a 4 ohm load, but wasn't told why I should go one way or the other. If wiring at 4 ohms is just as stable, how would say an Alpine MRP-M850 or MRP-M1000work for me? They seem to have built in speaker level inputs, and I assume both run 4 ohm stable.

Hifonics is not high on the quality list.  In general, Alpine makes a much better product.  If you are interested in sound quality, Alpine is a better choice.

The only reason you might want to "max your speaker's RMS" or wire for 1-ohm is if you want it loud and don't care about how it sounds.  If you want to ti sound good, shoot for a 4-ohm load.  And buy the best, biggest power amplifier you can afford.  0.65 cuft for each subwoofer is too small to port, so you'll have to make sure it's sealed and live with a little booming sound.  Your f3 will be around 50Hz in that small an enclosure, which means the super-low bass will be gone.  You may not notice depending on the kind of music you listen to.

There is nothing wrong with PAC LOCs.  If you have them available, use them.  I prefer LOCs to using amplifier high-level inputs whenever possible.  A "Clean Sweep" or the like may be required depending on how your OEM HU tailors the sound for the OEM speakers.  You probably won't know for sure until you try.
