I went to my local shop to get an Alpine head unit installed in my 2006 blazer ext and they told me it will be 300 bucks!  I've heard of $60-$100 but $300?  seems expensive!  Are they trying to rip me off?  I have a fully loaded 2006 Trailblazer ext w/ DVD.  I wanted to hook the deck up to the existing bose system.

Do you have on-star, or I should ask, are you going to USE the on-star?  Also, so you want to retain the factory dvd?

On-star/Bose interface: ~ $150 - $180

DVD retention: ~ $100 - $150

Kit:  ~ $15 - $20

Pricing varies by store but these give you ball-park estimates for adding a head-unit to your screwed up GM designed car.

I had an older lady come into my shop the other day and had a newer envoy.  Her CD went out and it wasn't under warranty because she bought the car used.  She was quoted $600 to fix the factory Bose CD player.  I had a hard time telling her that it was gonna be around $400 to put in a bottom-of-the-line CD player and retain her bose and on-star.  I felt bad for the lady.  Then I showed her the Isimple peice from Peripheral, and got her iPod hooked  up for under $125.  She thought I was the car audio God. lol.
