ez bridge/phase shift?

I have an old school fosgate power 500.2 with a phase shift for each channel, and the right side doubles as an "EZ-bridge" (says ez-bridge/phase shift). I know there are other amps out there with phase shift and I also know you can do it manually. My question is how do you know if it is necessary or if you will benefit from phase shifting ,And also about the "EZ bridge" setting. I've never felt the need to mess with it until recently my curiousity got the best of me. I am running @ 2ohms stereo and I am afraid to tinker with the ez bridge in fear of frying my amp with a low impedence load. I've consulted my manual and it dosen't explain its function, just what it is, not what it does. In the quest to accurately fine tune my system this is the only thing I have not adjusted or messed with. Any help would be great, thank you

All it does is invert one channel (the right one), for connecting the negative lead of your speaker to the positive speaker output on the amplifier... It's just to bridge the amp. Don't switch the other, also, or you will gt zero (or very little) output. As long as you are not connecting less than 4 ohms across the amplifier outputs, you'll be safe. Now, the only reason FOR the "phase shift" is to somply invert the speaker's output for better homogenization with the front speakers. If you were, for example, noticing a "hole" in your bass or mid-bass response, you can sometimes invert the woofer polarity, and fix or at least improve the situation somewhat. Those switches are just there yo make it easy to do so.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Ok, that makes perfect sense. I love the way manufacturers give simple things special names...like EZ bridge. I was afraid it actually did something to physicall bridge the channels. thanks for the quick response.
