kicker compvr cvr104

Hello,

I am adding a single Kicker CVR104 to my truck.  This speaker includes dual 4-ohm voice coils.  I have been out of the sub game for longer than I care to admit.  I don't really understand dual voice coils, but have been trying to read up on the forum.  The power specs for this sub are as follows

power handling: 50-400 watts RMS (200 watts per coil)

My question is, what type of amp should I look for?  Can I still get a mono sub amp to power both coils, and if so, which ohm rating do I need to correctly match the sub?  If I get a 2 channel amp, I assume I will hook up each output of the amp to a single voice coil each.  So in that case, I would want an amp rated no higher than 200 watts RMS per channel?  I guess I am really wanting a mono amp as they seem to push more watts, or a bridged output from a 2 channel amp, so what are my options?  Thanks!

Easy pick you up a Kicker ZX500.1 they are 2 ohm stable. Connect the positive coil 1 to positive coil 2. Then neg coil 1 to neg coil 2. Then run a lead from one positive and neg coil to your amp. This will give you a 2 ohm load. the zx500.1 does 500rms at 2 ohm. And yes this will be fine the sub is underated some. and if you follow the How To Set Gain topic you will be sure to get the amp set right and have no problems

Dual 2ohm or dual 4?

Yes they do typically put out more than they are rated at. My ZX1000.1s do 1280 and 1279 rms @ 2 ohms. But that is max RMS at 14.4 volts. Not many  run a consistant 14.4 volts. As you stated the sub is also under rated at 400 rms so the 500.1 is a great match allowing you to not run the amp at full strenght to get the output you need.. But yes the 400.1 would be perfect power for it.
