panasonic owners

So i wanna thank "I'm an idiot" reguarding my post yesterday. I skipped right over one of the fuses and sure enough there was one blown. But I've got another problem i was hoping another Panasonic owner might be able to help me out with. So I've got a panasonic CQ-df903u that i recently uninstalled and gave to a friend. We installed it today and it works but when you put cd's in, it won't do anything, no disk spin and just a motor noise. After a few moments it reads E2. The manual just says it stands for "error 2" but not how to fix it. I was thinking that it might be dirty or something. Any Advice?

Glad you found the fuse.

If the unit is several years old, chances are the laser pickup has failed.  Have you tried a store bought CD yet.  When the pickup is failing, they will usually stop reading burned discs first.  Most units attempt to focus the laser before they will spin the disc.  I have seen only one laser that actually needed cleaning.  It was in a DJ booth in a bar.  Do not put a lens cleaner in your unit. 

Just for testing, try holding the unit upside down and see if it will play that way.  What fails in the pickup is the tiny shock absorbers that hold the lens at half mast.  If it plays upside down, it is bad.  It may not play upside down.

Ya, I took your advice and tryed playing upside down and nothing! So I guess it was time to just get rid of it. Took it out just in time. Thanks
