You guys know how head units have the option to set the volume level of each source so there's no abrupt volume change when you swith betreew sources?? My question is do I set that before or after I adjust my gains??

This is to maintain an even level of sound when switching between am/fm, cd, aux, etc...
Set it before your gains, but you may have to fine tune afterward.
