center speaker

The car is an 03 sentra.  I have in the doors Memphis MSQ5 run off a 200 watt amp.  I built a center pod in the dash and installed a Memphis PR 5 1/4 (4 ohm speaker).  It is bridged off of the headunit.  (I plan on installing an amp/center channel processor one day)  The problem I have is being how close it is to my ears it out plays the MSQ's.  I read somewhere I can put a 4 ohm resister inline with the PR to make it softer.  Possible?

If you do that, the resistor needs to be large enough to handle the power that it is going to be soaking up.  Radio Shack sells an 8 Ohm 20 watt resistor, you can parallel 2 of these to give you a 4 Ohm 40 watt resistor.  When you install it, you really need to play it for a while and monitor the resistors for heat.  They should not heat up with radio power, but I would really hate for it to melt something in your dash.  If they are heating up, you may have to mount them to some sort of a heat sink.

did not think of the heat.  I have an infrared temp gauge so monitoring it won't be a problem.  Thanks for the heads up.
