92 corvette delco bose input?

Alright so I had a wiring disaster come in today. The factory radio was not working, and I imagine the factory front amps on the Delco Bose speakers were shot. After about 2 hours of wiring nightmare this is what I did. Used the GM standard plug into the tuner box output to the speakers. Ran wires and antenna from tuner box to stereo compartment. Now since I did not have the factory radio to test the AC voltage I assumed it was high lines, so I hooked it up to the head unit via speaker wires (high). It sounded like factory Bose speakers, but I had to manually connect the fronts since the amplifiers were shot on them. In the end it sounded alright, but the rears sounded really distorted. Maybe it was just me, or the speakers were on their last leg. But I would like to know for future reference. So my question is are the inputs to the amps on the speakers high or low input? Also rant/rave - the Metra mounting kit was effective, but too squished. Could barely remove the faceplate.

The Bose radios of that era and earlier were really Mid-Level outputs.   Not near speaker level, and older radios with 1 volt pre-outs would not drive the amp to it's limits.  Be careful if you decide to bypass the amplifiers.  Chances are the speakers are 1 Ohm or 2 Ohm drivers. 

I didn't bypass the amps for a reason, but I bypassed the tuner. For some reason it just sounded a little distorted. Must have been the age. Thanks
