OK, I have a new Nissan Versa S with the base radio.  It does not  have AUX input, and as far as I can tell there is no adapter to add to the back to add an input.  (It is possible with the next best radio, but I have the base with single CD player).

I want to just add my wired FM modulator (similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007THIDQ/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk).  But this has the standard car antenna connector on it.  To install on the nissan versa, I'd need these adapters: http://www.tss-radio.com/nissan-antenna-adapter-kit-40ni32-p-5707.html

Question, can I just strip down the output anntena wire from the fm modulator and connect that to the wire that comes from the car antenna to the radio, leaving the radio and antenna plug as-is?  The only potential downside I see to this is that now the fm modulator won't be filtering the 88.5 signal as it comes in from the antenna, but if that station is "blank", it may not interfere much.

John

thanks!

In addition to the interference of the two signal sources, tapping into the antenna lead will change the impedence of the car antenna. This will probably degrade over the air radio reception.

That would be a bad idea. I have a suspicion that would cause very annoying interference and engine whine through your vehicles speakers when you turn on your radio. My opinion is to go ahead and buy an antenna adapter. Good luck!

I may give it a try.  If I do I'll report back.

I also may just get a new HU.  Anyone know of a cheap unit with bluetooth and an aux input.  Nothing fancy.

I opened up the fm modulator and ran a wire from the the connector on the circuit board where the antenna output is.  I ran this wire to the antenna wire that leads into the back of the car stereo.  It seems to work just fine.  I haven't noticed any degradation in AM or FM reception.  The channel the modulator is on is 88.9.  there is a distant station on that channel, but the modulator transmits right over it and I can't hear any interference at all.

No big deal, basically I just save like $20-$30 since I didn't have to buy the 2 adapter I would have needed to hook it up "correctly".

thanks!

well, I'm going to have to take this back.  after further testing, there is interference from the local station on that frequency.  I installed the modulator as it is designed and it works OK now (except there is no  AM reception).
