I was cruising around town in 100 degree temps and my sub suddenly went out. I checked it out and it appears one of my 2 10"s doesn't work. The sub plays fine when I unplug the none working speaker. Is one of them dead? :[

You can flip/flop the rca's...then see if the other subs starts playing...flip/flop the wires at the amp...then see if the other sub starts playing...And worst case , take the sub out and see if a wire came off the sub...! What do you mean by " the sub plays fine when you unplug the non-working one:...? Does the sound increase when you do this...?

I think he has a shorted sub.  When he disconnects the shorted one the other one begins to play.  If this is the case, do not reconnect that sub.  It is dead.

I set the gain with a multimeter before. I will check out all the wiring once its not super hot outside. And yes when both are connected you can only here very very faint noises coming out but once I unhook the "dead" speaker the other side plays normal.
