hooking up second head unit in the trunk?

Okay....Here's my involved equipment: Main Head Unit: JVC ADV6160 Trunk Head Unit: Older Junk Pioneer I'm going to make a fiberglass panel that houses the Pioneer's faceplate in the trunk lid, and have the rest of the Pioneer's HU in the spare wheel well.   My main question is how much amperage the accessory wire on the Pioneer draws, and if I can hook it up to the remote turn on from the JVC. This is not super relevant or anything, but to comply with forum requests the vehicle is an 05 Mitsu Galant.

Hook up the battery and ground leads on the bench, then, put your ammeter in the line to find out how much current it requires. There is likely no way that anybody here will be able to tell you FOR SURE the current demands on the accessory lead of that radio.It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Alright....ty, I was just trying to see if anyone here has ever done it....also don't have an ammeter, don't think my dmm does that. Just trying to save a relay I guess.

It would not be wise to power the pioneer off of the remote lead from the JVC, more than likely you will damage one or both units.

If the Pioneer radio is newer than 15 years or so, You will be fine connecting the red wire of the Pioneer to the remote wire of the JVC deck.  The red wire of the pioneer is simply a trigger wire that tells the unit it is OK to turn on.  All relevant power comes through the yellow wire.
