Got a 2010 Mustang GT with the Shaker500 and SYNC.

I recently added some MTX TDX6802 6x8 coaxials to replace the stock 5x7's in the front doors and rear deck.

It was a slight improvement over stock.  My problem is I can't get as much bass out of the stock 8" sub in the door as I could before. The MTX 6x8's are distorting. I didn't think the MTX would have a harder time with the bass then the stocker speakers did, but I like the brighter highs from the MTX's.

Can I use a capacitor to block some of the LPF so I can just get the bass from the 8" sub?

If so which capacitors do you recommend I try.

I remember doing this a long, long time ago.....pretty sure there are better ways but not as cheap.

Play only one door for about 5 minutes, paying close attention to the bass response.  Now reverse the wires of the new speaker.  Listen to it again.  Does the bass sound better with the wires reversed?   Do the same with the other door.   I am thinking that you may have wired the new speakers out of phase with the 8 inch woofers.

They are not out of phase as they are wired the same as the stock speakers and put out a good amount of bass.
But I will try to wire them out of phase to see it that will help. Usually that will take some bass out of them.

Different companies have the polarity of their speakers switched. positive on the factory speakers may not be positive on the aftermarket speakers.

In your initial post you stated that you could not get as much bass os you did before.  That is the only reason I was thinking a phasing issue.  Then you stated that there was not a problem with the bass.

I have yet to see a factory speaker that is marked positive and negative. I never seen any that were as you described either. I always test them by putting 9volts to them, even if I have a diagram of the factory setup.

Oh no its definately not a phasing issue.
I get bass out of both the 6x8's and the 8" sub. But the 6x8's are destorting and not letting me play the 8" subs as I normally do. This is why I ask about using a "bass blocker" such as a capacitor.
I need to get some bass out of the 6x8's so the 8" subs can play like they should and I don't blow the 6x8's.
Hope that clears it up.

I had the same car, I put new 6x8's in but I added a 2 channel amp for the two door subs, this will solve your problem

Like I said even if they were labeled or in a diagram I would have still tested them. It is not an phasing issue. And every car I have done an install on has not had markings.
I know amping them would work but that is not what I was asking.
If I'm going yo amp them I might as well put better speakers in.

If the only problem is too much bass in the new speakers, then yes a capacitor will block the bass from those speakers.   Do you know the impedance of the speakers that came out of the car?  If they were 8 ohm speakers and you replaced them with 4 ohm or 2 ohm drivers, they would play louder than the 8 ohm speakers.
