So I was helping a friend install a new aftermarket stereo to replace her current aftermarket stereo in her 96 Jetta. After disconnecting the battery, installing new wire harness etc, hooking up the new tuner, we hook the battery back up to try everything and the alarm horn comes on. But it doesnt come on in the typical pulse fashion (BEEP BEEP BEEEP BEEP etc), it just comes on continuously as one continuous note. The car wont start, and we cant figure out how to turn it off. We tried all the described methods to reset the alarm by locking and unlocking the driver door/trunk/other doors etc. A car audio guy over the phone recommended we leave the battery unhooked, then touch the + and - leads on the stereo head unit together to disperse any residual charge which should have reset the alarm system according to him. Tried that, and still when the battery is connected, the alarm horn comes on continuously. Also, the headlights aren't flashing as if the alarm were actually triggered, so I have no clue how to address this. Any ideas?

Disconnect the radio, leave the battery unhooked for 10 mins and then try to connect it. If that works, then check your wiring harness.
You don't have any blue or blue/white wires connected on it do you? If so, disconnect them. They are actually K wires for the vehicle.
