opinions on port options?

Ok I was wondering everyones opinions on port options when building a sub box. The pros and cons of a regular round port, an Aero/flared port, and a slot port. I called Fi to talk to them about one of their subs and the guy told me he prefers flared ports even though they are under their reccomended port area per FT^3. Any thoughts?-ETS-

From the hand full of subs in those enclosures I've heard I like a round port the most. In my box I used a piece of 4" PVC pipe and took a router with a quarter round bit to its interior edges on both ends and have NO port noise.

A flared port has less turbulence than a flat round one, and a flat round one has less turbulence than a slot.  But if properly designed, it really doesn't matter.  If the port is in the listening space (meaning inside the passenger compartment in a vehicle) just keep port velocity less than 20m/sec and you're fine no matter what shape it is.  If the port is in the trunk or anywhere else not inside the vehicle with you, or if you are looking for max SPL, use whatever is easiest to attain the tuning you need and don't worry about it.Support the12volt.com
