All cut, and ready for assembly. Yes, again, I will be using nothing but Gorilla Glue. Net volume of around 1.5 cubes for each, (I'll provide exact numbers later, I just don't have them memorized currently) JBL predicts an f3 of 35Hz, and with cabin gain, I'll end up with roughly 20-21Hz. A starting efficiency of about 6dB better than it was, in addition to a second driver, I predict about 128 to 130 dB anechoic output... A significant increase of a little better than 18dB in peak output! Cabin gain will offer about 6dB more. Pictures to follow! Assembly and parts... OK... As promised, photos! All I'm left with now is: 1: Removing the old system. 2: Re-cutting and fitting the bottom panel. 3: Attaching the bottom panel. 4: Stuffing new cabinet with 1.5 pounds of fiber. 5: Re-installing the whole mess. 6: Resetting the EQ and gains. Here's the photobucket link... With four 8 ohm coils, I'll be wiring them in series-parallel for 8 ohms; I figure that's going to reduce the power of the PDX1.1000 to around 600 watts. Still plenty for me, it'll drag about 2.5dB off the top, but I'm already starting with a HUGE output gain. 1: Thanks for the PM link, Dave... 2: Modeled Q=.818 and Fc @ 43 and F3 @ 35Hz. Speakershop's Cabin gain addition shows a flat 3dB shelf rise below about 50Hz to well below 20. I know that's MODELS, but I am pretty excited about what this is going to be able to do in the real world, even. It's already 10dB louder than the TL in there right now! Power limited to 123dB above 42Hz. Below 42Hz, a 6dB roll-off applies, as is expected in a sealed enclosure, so anechoic response models at roughly 117dB @ 21Hz and 111 @ 10Hz. I think I'll be happy with reference levels at 15Hz... In the car... For now. Here's a screenshot of the JBL figures. This is the normalized response curve, and the 2.83V input efficiency. This is the phase response and group delay. Both really nice plots, 90 degrees at 40Hz, and no worse than 7mS, I think it's going to sound really good! Well, they're in... 0200 Saturday morning, and I have spent about the last 90 minutes or so listening. As it is either late at night, or early in the morning, (depending on your point of view) I was unable to really turn it up, but a few things stuck out... 1: Extension. Holy shiite! 20Hz is easy peasy. Authoritative, and amazingly linear, to boot. In the little time I've spent already, there's been some change. Never a believer or endorser of "break-in", I do believe such a thing does exist. Musical, and turned all the way down, they overpower my doors, easily. The modelled outputs from above are certainly a strong possibility. 2: I don't like the .82 Qts. A bit "whumpy" (for my tastes, anyway) in the car, I'm glad I've got a LOT of EQ to filter it out. I'll be heading to Trans-Lex in the morning, laptop, soundcards and mic in hand, for critical tuning. OK... Developments: 1: They are way too efficent. I know, right? I had the amp set on the .1-1V range, with the knob all the way down... Deck set to zero, and it was still far too hot on mearly everything in my collection. 2: Switched (after a day of listening) the amp to the 1-10V range. Set amp to center detent on gain. MUCH better. Set deck to zero, and I discovered I can actually play with above and below "reference". I am currently in Yosemite, so I can't really do much tuning, but when I get to Bako tyomorrow, I'll be tweaking again. 3: The extension they are capable of is nothing short of astounding. With the equivalent displacement of a 21" driver withe 13mm if linear displacemnt, and the full RMS power on tap, (and then a little) it is nothing short of an "interesting" experience. 20Hz fundamentals are fully capable, I promise you. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Crystal Method... Wow... Extension was WELL worth the output tradeoff. I got three words for these things! FUN FUN FUN!!! Really musical, but amazing output too... I shouldn't be surprised, with the equivalent output of a 93dB efficient, 21 inch woofer, it SHOULD be fun! LOL With normal program material, at a reasonable level (up to 105-110dB or so - as loud as I *ever* listen to music) they are frighteningly linear. They move about ±3mm of their capable ±12, I haven't been able to make them complain loud enough to bother me, no matter the program! Subsonic set to 15Hz, I haven't been able to put the RTA in yet (that's happening tonight), but I have heard very strong early 20's! I'll try to get a screenshot from TrueRTA and post it!
