I'm trying to figure out if RE's model xt1600.2 v2 will work well with two RE SEx 10 d4 (4 ohm) subs. It is a class AB amp and is rated at
200 watts x 2 @ 4 ohms
400 watts x 2 @ 2 ohms
800 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms
The subs are rated 600 watts RMS. Should I go with 2 ohm subs instead? They also make this amp in an all digital model. Should I go with that?
I'm learning all this as I go. I'm a journeyman electrician so I know of Ohm's law and all that, but I'm at a loss with this amplification stuff. Any and all help is appreciated

You have two dual coil 4 ohm subs.  Each can be series wired for 8 ohms, then the two subs can be paralleled to make a 4 ohm impedance.

The amplifier makes 800 watts with a 4 ohm impedance load (  see rant ) bridged across the terminals.  That is 400 watts per sub which is only 2/3 of what you say is their limit at 600 watts each.

What you have is a match.  If you switch to the digital amp, I'll presume it is a one-channel class D.  If it is such, it would match best with the two DVC 2 ohm subs, so that, combined, their impedance will be 2 ohms.  The class D amp would take less power to operate, being more efficient than A/B, and perfectly suitable for subwoofers.

See the blue section to the left of this screen.  Under Car Audio & Mobile Video, go to the Subwoofer Wiring Options, or to Parallel and Series Calcs.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Just won't let it go, huh? :P
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
