I'm trying to make my subs sound like they are comming from up front, i'd like to have a little more bass up front to make that happen.
My fronts are Memphis 6.5's, they can handle more bass output but i cannot figure out a way to push some bass boost for the 60-100hz region or whichever i need to make the subs blend in more.
They are connected to a JLAudio 400/4 amp. HU is Pioneer 4200UB HU. On my HU EQ, i have its lowest setting, which is 100hz cranked.....IF i use the HU's seperate bass boost adjustment (not sure its frequency), it effects my subs which color their sound and i don't want that...however, they make my Fronts sound terrific and they can handle it great without any distortion at high volume.
So i'm trying to figure out how i can use that bass boost without effecting my subs, even though the HU has seperate sub, front, rear outputs, all the settings seem to effect everything. My amp only has bass boost on channels 3&4 but i can't use those, they put out 150 watts rms and would probably kill my Memphis 50wattrms rated speakers, i assume. Channel 1&2 put out 75 watts rms. no boost for them.
I am considering putting them to 1&2 channel but kinda scared to....Is it safe to do so as long as they don't sound bad? i assume over powered speakers would distort before blowing?
otherwise, i need some way to boost the bass signals to my JL amp. Any other suggestions for getting subs to blend into front stage is appreciated.

Is there a High Pass Filter on the front channels of the radio?  Have you tried turning it off, or lowering the frequency?

I second the crossover setup "idiot" mentioned above.
if those front speakers are in the stock position, you need to make sure you seal the door panel as best as possible. Dynamat or similar brands help the door panel become an "enclosure" for the fronts an result in great midbass.
Also Check Out This Article for a better understanding of front stage bass.
hope this helps

yes its off. As i mentioned, i can turn up "bass boost" which is a seperate HU setting and the fronts handle it fine, but it colors the sound of the subs...not as "clean" sounding or crisp....but makes the fronts sound great.
so thats what i'm trying to do is seperate it by having a bass boost of some kind to fronts only. I'm wondering if there is like a line driver or something that has its own bass boost knob? i havnt really seen much of a simple device like that.

like i mentioned, they are already capable of putting out decent mid bass...its seperating that bass boost is what i'm trying to do cause without using any, my subs sound terrific but the fronts don't put out much without it for some reason.
i'm picturing something like a line driver with a bass boost knob, but i don't know what preamps out there exists that will allow full range sound and have bass boost.....something not too expensive that is nor a crossover.

Ok. Well the pioneer EQ and bass booster will effect ALL of the outputs. Why don't you try to setup the front stage first. Then after you have what you want reset all the gains on the bass amp and start from scratch. You should be able to tune the bass however you want it AFTER you set your fronts straight.
Make sure you note what settings everything is currently. just in case you are not satisfied.

Cleansweep made them louder, thats it. I need something like the Alpine imprint...will it work on my Pioneer HU? if not is there any other processor out there that will automatically adjust for my cars accoustics.
delay would be nice, but no idea what processors out there have delay except the 360.1 but i read lots of problem complaints oubout it and its pricey. But i need something similar to Imprint...any suggestions?

sub amp gains are at 0 already. I can't adjust fronts without it effecting subs despite the HU having a seperate sub preouts. Both amps have 8v line drivers connected, i can turn the subs down....but the bass boost from HU still colors the actual sound of the bass a bit...like its raising a specific frequency, although i'm not sure which or if it increases a range of low frequencies, but i can hear its not flat and as it is, the subs sound terrific and hit hard, clean sound....just that i can tell it comes from behind me which is affecting the overall sound quality i'm looking for.
