Hi, i'm new to this forum and have searched but I can't find (or just can't understand) an anwer to my question. Anyway, to the point.

I've got a Pyramid PBS80 800w 2-Channel bridgable amp. I'm installing this into an 05' chevy colorado crew cab with a single under the rear seat 10" subwoofer.

I'm needing help choosing what subwoofer to go with, I've got to run a shallow mount sub with no more than 3.5" of mount depth. I'm thinking of going with the Alphasonik PSW310X or the Memphis SC10. Both seem like really good subs for a decent price.

My delima is that i'm not sure whether i should use a single 4 Ohm or dual 4 ohm subwoofer with my amp? Both of the subs listed above are between 300w and 400w RMS. I used to have a single Kicker ComVRr 12" on it. I was running the amp bridged and I remember that the sub was a Dual Voice Coil sub but don't know if it was 2 or 4 ohm?

Anyone know what would be the best setup for me to use? I'm not wanting window rattling bass but just something that sounds good. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It depends if your amp is 2 ohm MONO stable or 4 ohm MONO stable. If its stable to 2 ohm mono than go with a dual 4 ohm sub but if its only stable to 4 ohm mono than use a single 4. NOTE I said 2 ohm mono stable, if its 2 ohm stereo stable thats equivalent to 4 ohm mono in which case your using single voice coil.

I highly doubt ANY Pyramid 2 channel amplifier is stable down to 2ohms bridged...
Get either:
a single 4ohm sub
OR
a dual 2ohm sub and wire the coils in series to 4ohms and wire it to the bridged output terminals OR wire one voice coil to each stereo output channel
Good Luck!

  • Sorry, Just realized my amp is a Pyramid PB580 (not S80). This is all the info i could find on it. Let me know if this will help anyone help me. I have talked with some local shops and they have said also to go with either a single 4ohm or dual 2ohm. I think i may go with the Pioneer TS-SW2501S4. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm not needing anything "window shaking" but just needing to add some decent bass to my highs and mids. Thanks again for the help.

Yes, you'll want either a S4 or a D2ohm sub.
I personally would get a D2. Just so, if in the future, you upgrade to a larger amp, you can get a more efficient mono (1 channel) amp that is stable down to 1ohm. -You could wire the coils in parallel (for 1ohm).
1ohm stable mono amps are, in my experience, cheaper than 2ohm stable mono amps.
