doing my first big system

So i'm use to doing simple installs with basic amp installation kits that you get at wal mart or best buy. The thing is i want to stop using those things and start doing a more buy what i want kind of install to make the setup look a lot better then what i have been doing.

For my first install im going to be installing a JBL GTO24001 2400 watt amp and 2 FI Audio 12" BTL N3 subs ratted at 3000 RMS, and well thats about as far as i got. 

so what i need to know is how would be the best way to wire a system like this, any other imput would be great. 

So far everything in my truck audio is stock besides the JVC head unit that is going to be changed for a double din touch screen 

The first step is to determine power wire size. There are several ways to do this. Many people look at the amp(s) they are getting ready to install and determine it's power requirements. Then get wire big enough to support that. Other people look to the future and size their wire based on what they think they may eventually want to install, to prevent having to remove the first wire and buy a new, bigger wire to support upgrades. Once you determine how much current you want to be able to support there is a chart on this site that tells you the minimum wire size for that power level.Kevin Pierson

i assume you have a ranger...? if so then there is a perfect place to drill through the firewall when you lift up the carpet by the gas and brake pedals. actually the spot is more towards the floor that up on the firewall but if you pull back the carpet you will see a round spot that is indented in the metal and it goes straight outside. i never liked drilling through the firewall on my ranger because its just packed with stuff and its hard to find a safe spot to drill without hitting anything you dont want to.
