I have seen alot of pics on the net in which xb owners installed a sub in some sort of custom enclosure, in the spare tire storage area with the sub firing upwards. I am wondering if I should do this in a 2nd gen xb (to save space?) and will it sound good or should I just stick with a regular enclosure?

it will sound fine as long as it is a properly designed box and not something that is just built to fit with no consideration as to what the sub want in order to work right.
