I just wanted to get peoples opinions, i'm getting ready to build a system from scratch again and i've been a big alpine fan for about 10 years now, ever since i started working for circuit. I however don't care for their new amps, i'm looking for the quality and power i got from my 1507 and 407 back in the day. My question is do any of you feel the new alpines measure up to those amps and do you have any suggestion for a different company that would be comparable.

The PDX amps are very good sounding, but you can't push them with low impdeance loads like you could an old-school Alpine. I say give them a try. They are a bit pricey but if you want another brand check out Genesis, Zapco, PHASS, and a few others... And then there are brands like JL Audio, Eclipse JBL or Focal to consider. For genuine high end, look at Butler, Milbert, Mcintosh...

I had an eclpise amp 4 channel that i liked about 5 years ago but was lacking a little bit of power. One of the guys at a local shop told me that i should go with db drive because they are the closest to the old school alpines. I've never heard of them so i don't know. research suggest that they are ok. How about the new jbl amps, i know the old school powervalve amps were good, i still have a mono thats been running for like 10 years but i don't know what the quality is like now.

alpine is still nice stuff. i have the pdx-f4 and i couldnt be more impressed with the quality and sound that comes out of it but they are expensive and i think the biggest amp they make is a 1200 watt. i used to work as an installer at circuit for a while and i was never too impressed with eclpise amps, or eclipse in general. you said you are building from the ground up so what are your plans? do you have certain speakers in mind? all of this matters

Well the system is going to be based around 2 type X 10's, I don't want it to be ridiculous but it's going in a nissan 240sx hatchback. I am a sound quality guy at heart. I am all done with the bass that blows out windows. Like i said i haven't been really keeping up with the game lately. I am a installer but all we have is kenwood and rockford so ya know there isn't any sound quality there lol unless you wanna spend alot for the t3's or whatever from rockford. I'm trying to get a good feeling for some of the new components. I know a few years ago i had the alpine flagship speakers that i really loved and i also had a set of polk momo's that i really loved. but i don't know what compares to that now.

For subwoofers, use whatever amp you like, it isn't all that important. Just get something with good clean power. For your mains, that's where you want to spend some money and get a good quality amp. Like I said earlier, the SQ from the Alpine PDX series is excellent for main speakers.
