What I got -
Pioneer Premeir 690ub head unit
Kicker KQ5 eq
Pioneer Premeir 400/4 highs amp
Boston Acoustics 4x6 dash spkrs
MB Quart Premium 6.5 componts
JL Audio 500/1
JL Audio 10" w7
****In a reg. cab S10**********
My question is .....my eq does not gave a sub output, but my head unit does. Should I run my sub off the head unit or the eq ? I have it off the eq now, but have been reading how others have it and it seems to be the majority prefers to run off the sub rca's from the head unit versus the rear channel of the eq. I dont really wanna go through all the trouble unless its really the way to go...HELP !!!!!

its really a personal preference. the sub output will have different options to control the sub better than if you had it on the rear channel but neither way is better than the other in my opinion.

Yeh, konda what I was thinkin....so yes there are "some" bennefits to going off the head unit, minimal as they may be. Also , it would give me fade control over my higjs again....

between the options the pioneer HU has and the jl 500/1 amp options... i would run the sub amp from the sub outs and have the pioneer highpass the pre outs to the EQ..

Never thought of that.....OK, now brace yourself for what has the possibilityto be the dumbest question of the day, but I don't quite understand......how would I utilize the hpf on the head unit when only my sub is running off the h/u ? If what you're suggesting (which I am totally considering once I have the full understanding) is to run sub out from h/u to Jl 500/1 (to ofcourse supplysub, then from JL 500/1 pre out to eq, from eq front & rear outs to Premeir 4ch which will feed my highs.....seems like I'd be using premeir amps hpf and eqinstead of h/u hpf.... OK, now feel free to set me straight. Just slowly and in laymans terms cuz I aint that bright lol....thanks !

no, run the front pre out from the pioneer to the input of the eq, then from the eq to whatever is running your highs. you would still be able to apply any feature from the pioneer.  run the sub out from the pioneer to the JL.

ditto!

doing as SnS said will allow you excellent flexibility when setting sub level, engaging and dis engaging pioneers hpf, F&R fading independent of sub level.

also on a side note... if you are using a ported encosure, try to take advantage of the awsome subsonic filter on the JL amp. it  can keep your woofer from unloadig and keep the amp from wasting wattage on frequencies below the port tuning.

if you are using a sealed enclosure, you might be able to leave it off or tun way down and proceed to shake your dental work loose.
