kenwood dnx7180, using metra kit

Hi all, I'm new here and hope I'm posting in the right place. I recently had a Kenwood DNX7180 installed into my 2011 Camaro with a Metra dash kit. About a week after instal I began having a technical difficulty of which my local Future Shop could not explain or fix. When I apply the brakes and come to a complete stop the sound increases in volume almost twice as loud. The when I press the accelerator the volume drops to half the volume it was set at. This has become a very distracting problem and is also extteamly madening. Can anyone help??? Thank you very much.

Not sure if this will help or not, but you want to make sure they used the correct integration harness. I have an 06 vette and my radio is tied pretty deeply into my computer system. I'm not sure if your original HU had auto volume, but it may be an issue. These new cars are not the plug and play they used to be. Good luck. Pete

the kenwood probably has a function to monitor the speed sensor of the car that is linked to the volume control of the radio. its meant to turn your radio up as the speed goes up to compensate for road noise. they probably hooked the speed sense wire to the wrong wire, sounds like its hooked to the tach wire which goes up and down with the engine rpm not the cars actual speed.

you might be able to go through the kenwood settings and turn the feature off completely until you can get it fixed the right way

The correct integration harness was used and the Stereo does not have auto volume.

There is no speed sensor on this particular radio that I can find.

Take it back to the shop that did the work and demand that they fix their obvious mistake, or demand that they return your car to factory condition so you can take it somewhere else.Support the12volt.com

I tried this already, they worked on it and its still causing me grief. I feel I have exhausted everything except having it returned to factory condition which I do not want as It will cost me extra to have someone else install it. I was hopeing someone here would know or have gone through what I am experiencing. Again, its a 2011 Chev Camaro, removed factory deck and installed a kenwood DNX7180 useing a Metra kit to mount. When the vehicle is brought to a complete stop the volume increases on its own significantly, then when I press on the gas its drops back down. I have looked through the Manual and cannot find anything that refers to an automatic volume up or down feature. I have searched the internet far and wide and cannot find anything similar.

did they install a steering wheel control interface? maybe thats programmed wrong? can you see the volume go down on the screen like if you turned it down with the remote or does the volume just go up and down for seemingly no reason at all? i tried to look up the install manual for your kenwood but i could only find the owners manual. i wanted to know exactly what wires it had on the back. that metra kit is supposed to retain the factory bluetooth and ac controls so maybe its some sort of crosswired interference with the telephone mute/att wire. do you have the boston acoustics premium system? my point is that this is too weird of a problem for it to not be caused by some sort of wiring issue but im not there to be able to see for myself. the more info you can give about exactly what you see happening when you have this problem, the easier i will be able to figure out whats wrong.

metra kit install manual this is the install manual for your dash kit and the interface harness that came with it. it has build in steering wheel controls but on page 10 there are special instructions for kenwoods. the kenwood blue / YELLOW wire for its SWC is close enough to the speed sensor wire (blue/pink) from the harness that some idiot installer could have connected them together. this i guess could be part of the problem. that kit and harness isnt for rookies, there's a lot of wiring and programming going on so that everything will work like it should and one wrong wire could have strange consequences.

Hello and thank you for lookin into this for me. It is very much appreaciated. Yes I have the Boston Accoustics System. When the Break pedal is pressed all is well until I come to a complete stop then the volume level boosts as if it were amplified instantly. There is no volume level adjustment to be seen it just Boosts and loud. Then, I press the gas pedal and the volume drops to less than half the original volume setting. You are correct in that the Metra kit controls everything and all steering wheel controls ate operational. This happens regardless of weather I am using the radio, iPod, Sirius etc. hope this answers all your questions. My installer says he has been in touch with Metra and Kenwood and he has no answers at this point.
