wiring for bluetooth

Hey guys, brand new here--hope someone can help me out. I'm getting ready to install an Isimple Tranzit blu (bluetooth add-on device to factory radio) into a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. The install calls for connection of a switched 12v source. My question is: is it okay to tap into the switched 12v wire coming in from the radio harness? Or would it be better to tap in to cig lighter? Does it matter? FWIW, the radio wire harness would be much easier. Will this cause any problems with the radio if it "shares" a power source with the bluetooth device? Also, I've already taken the radio out and looked at diagram---it does have a switched wire in the harness! Hope someone can enlighten me. thanks! Mark

To answer your question, generally there is not a problem "sharing" power between the head unit and something like a blue tooth receiver.  But since your vehicle uses a data bus and has no switched power to the head unit, you will need to identify some other switched circuit in your fuse box and run a new switched power lead to the add-on.  If you have a cigarette lighter and it is switched with the key, yes you could use that.Support the12volt.com

did you just look at a diagram or did you actually test and verify a switched wire. more chrystlers newer than 04 use a data feed to turn the radio on but i remember doing a pacifica a few months ago and it did have a switched feed in the harness. pacificas are a very strange car as far as anything made by dodge goes. if it has the switched wire then go ahead and use it but it must be 12v with the car on, not 5v, so test and make sure before you connect anything.

thanks for the input, guys. Well, I did verify by looking at the wires running into the harness and,based the diagram, there is a switched power wire running in (pink/orange..slot 2,I believe). I have a multimeter and I can test to make sure...bluetooth device hasn't arrived from UPS yet and it's been so dang hot here I haven't wanted to climb into car and start messing around. Good to know I can tap into it though, if it's an option. I'll use one of the power outlets if there's no power coming in from the harness. Thanks again!
