2000 jeep grand cherokee infinity gold

Have questions about how to diganose an issue with the infinity gold system. Front speakers in the dash were very crackling. Replaced with brand new speakers from jeep. Sound the same. replaced with new radio sounds the same tried an amp from a different jeep and sounds the same. Anyone have any instite on where to start with this. Thanks

loose connection somewhere, cant really say where for sure. possibly a bad factory amp ground since you had the same problem with two different amps. you have ruled out most of the possibilities already and you are down to wiring issues. it is also possible it a a problem with where the speakers are mounted, cracked or broken plastic might look ok but if it has cracks then those would rattle when the speaker plays. loose screws or clips in any panels might sound like a crackling speaker. or maybe you just need to turn the bass down, does it get better if you turn the bass down?

Doesnt change with bass down or up even voices are crackly. Both front speakers do it. The dash was out and the wiring was looked at. How would I test the wire with a DMM? Measure resistance from the speaker connector?

it could be a speaker wire, if you want to test the resistance then you need to find both ends of each wire and test individually. it could also be the signal cable going from the radio to the amp. im not sure but i think there are some bare shield wires in your factory radio harness ( wires with no jacket at all) if any of those wires are touching other wires than it could cause static. with out being there to look for myself it is hard to say exactly.

Well i know what I need to tear into then. I will look at the harness again. Will the bare shield wires be up by the radio or something else? What should a piece of wire OHM out too lets say 6 feet long?

wire should ohm to 0 ohms, maybe a few milli ohms if there are connectors along the line. if there is corrosion or a bad connector then it will ohm much higher if at all. if they exist you should be able to see the bare shield wires behind the radio and at the factory amp
