I'm so tired of shopping for head units. No major player seems to support Android for more than Bluetooth streaming. Why do these manufacturers ignore half of the cell phone user base? Is there something inherently wrong with Android that makes it difficult to program for? Or are they just a bunch of corporate shills that are playing patsy with Apple?
I've found that Kenwood has decent support, but it's still limited to play, pause and next song. Pandora support is there, but that doesn't help when I'm playing my downloaded songs.
Has anyone had any luck with an Adroid DD HU from a major stereo company? I'm trying to keep it professional, so I'm avoiding the gimmicky brands which lack long term factory support.

An Iphone is an Iphone. All are the same. Android is an operating system. Multiple phone manufacturers build them using the android OS. Not all of them are the same. The manufacturers are in the process of standardizing things so they will be more similar. There is much more support for them than there was last year. I am expecting much more support next year.

Well said.
Maybe vonderbach could ask Android (or is he talking about Apple iPhones?) why it is they are not supporting HU formats?
Ok, that's not quite valid...
I see it more as a usual development lag - Android has taken off despite what the pundits.
Plus the usual standoff - who ports who?

Perhaps you are correct. I just found this (http://developer.android.com/tools/adk/index.html) and it seems to be a recent development. I was hoping for something to appear from this years CES, but it looks like it may still be too early. It's frustrating regardless of the reasoning behind it.
