honda prelude factory sub

Please someone help me. Ive literally spent days trying to get the rear factory subwoofer to work. I have a kenwood KDC-MPV619 aftermarket head unit. All the other speakers work like they should. The wiring harness that connects to the factory harness connector has one blue wire thats currently not spliced and it is labelled "power antenna +" Does that have anything to do with the sub not working? There's two wires on the headunit harness that are not spliced to anything right now. They are the "power control wire" and "motor antenna control wire". Hi, You need to connect the power control wire, which should be blue to the yellow/white wire (A6 on diagram). Hopefully your adapter harness has that blue lead located at that position for you. If you use the motor antenna control wire, that lead may not have power when a source other than the radio is selected. mark

hmm okay. So that power control wire only provides power to the amp? Does the amp receive the audio signal from the two rear speakers? How do i test to see if the amp isnt fried? Im pretty sure i tried coneecting that power control wire to the yellow/white and it didnt work. Im thinking maybe theres a bad splice somewhere.

Well do you have a multimeter? Set on DC volts...negative probe to B8 on amp. positive probe to B5, and to B6 should show +12V or so with radio on. Tune the radio to between radio stations so as to hear static from your main speakers, balance control to center, fader to center. Turn up the volume slightly for a constant shhhh through the speakers. Set meter to AC volts, probes between B1 and B2. Should show voltage dependent on radio volume setting, as should a measurement between B3 and B4. With meter still on AC volts probe between B9 and B10. You should have voltage if amplifier has output. Disconnect amplifier connector, set meter to ohms, probe between B9 and B10. Should show resistance (low value, 2-4 ohms probably). If none..infinity, speaker may be open/blown.

The power control lead tells the amplifier the radio is on. The amp gets power through the yellow/red lead. Yes, the amp gets signal through the rear speaker wiring. Amp testing in post above.

SUCCESS! I spent all day yesterday using a multimeter to pin point what was going on. That device is very helpful in determining which wire has power etc etc. After all that effort though i am a bit disappointed in the outcome. The sub doesnt really add a whole lot of bass. I might just end up taking the sub out and putting in a speaker. Should i just splice into the rears for that? Thanks for your help too by the way
