is my amp too big?

Hey guys, love the site. Been using it for almost 10 years. You think I would have learned something by now. Haha. Anyway, I have a MB Quart ONX1.1600D with RMS of 1600@ 1 ohm. 1100@ 2 ohms and 550 @ 4 ohms. I have 2 jl audio 10w3v3 SVC 2 ohm subs. The subs are rated for Max RMS of 500 watts. I bought the amp because I thought the subs were DVC 2 ohm. So i was gonna run them to the amp at 2 ohms for around a total of 550 watts to each sub. But they are SVC so I was wondering if I could run them at 1 ohm to the amp for a total of around 800 watts to each sub. Will my subs actually ever see 800 watts anyway? Will I blow my speakers? Is this safe? I don't usually blast my music. Just every now and then I will turn it up loud. But usually I only turn the volume up to maybe just over half of the max volume. Can someone tell me if running this set up will be ok? sorry. I am running a stock 2007 chevy silverado crew cab with stock alternator and blue top optima battery if that matters. Also should i get a capacitor?

Provided the capacitor is ONLY to protect the Optima...

If the amp will physically fit where you want to put it, it is not too big. You can never have too much power. The amp will only put out the 1600 watts if your right hand tells it to do so. You may have to use a little self control, but it is not and never will be too much power. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A CAPACITOR.

x2. I should have included that caps to protect AGMs is generally only for systems of 3kW output and above with a (secondary) single AGM of normal capacity - ie, 70AH. As to caps to avoid voltage dips - forget them - read MY and others' multiple replies on that issue - ie, a seconary battery (even if only a 1.2AH AGM) will crap on a cap in almost all situations.

Phew! Glad I'm downunder. To quote the immortal Maynard G. Krebs (Gilligan's Island's Bob Denver in "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis")... "WORK?!". But I'm glad you are avoiding the cost of a stiffening cap. Tho they do have legit uses, it is not for the reasons that many caraudio forums and salespeople seem keen to push. Their arguments are easily defeated by a (small) battery in place of the cap, and that should only follow proper wiring (ie the BIG 3 or 4) and alternator sizing. Typical audioforum "logic" may be well demonstrated in rfhvhtoo's capacitor debate keep it clean thread - a confusion of various electrical behaviors with little relation to reality. That's in case you are interested... That thread was one of the few where detailed discussion was attempted rather than our usual summary statement "forget about caps".

haha. The wires are already installed. I just need to take out my back seat and mount the amp to the back wall and then wire the subs and screw them into the box. Not really that much work to do since I already had one sub and amp installed. Just upgraded to a pro box that holds 2 subs so I just decided to add another sub instead of wasting the extra space. Thanks for the link to the thread. I am gonna read up on it.
