I seem to have run into a problem with how I want to hook up an extra speaker to my Ford F150 sync system. I installed speakers, 4 channel amp, and a JVC kwav61 radio.
I have the external speaker hooked up for playing the sync voice, however I only want the speaker to play when sync is activated. So currently I have it on a switch that I turn on to connect the negative speaker wire which in turn allows the speaker to play and is the only speaker active while sync is on.
I want it to be controlled automatically instead of using a switch.
I tried using a relay:
86, 12V
85, Mute wire off of afsi-01 harness
30 speaker negative
87 speaker negative
The problem is when I have mute hooked up to the relay and it sends the negative trigger the relay activates but mute is cancelled out and the radio is not muted anymore.
I've tried using a diode across the coils as well as a diode on the mute wire, neither of which helped just the same result.
Any ideas? Would the Axxess Universal Trigger module be more effective?
Thanks

I have no experience with the Axxess piece. If you were to use the Pac-Audio piece, the following will help you.

I am going to go look at the instructions for your piece. The transistor in my first diagram in the above link may help you. Give me a minute.
The Metra instructions were sketchy at best. But I think if you use the transistor to drive the relay coil and the mute wire of the deck, it will do what you need.

awesome thanks for the help! I think this is what I needed, I will be putting it together and testing in a bit. Axxess tech support sucks.
