uprading system

I have decided, after a week of things going wrong with my system, to upgrade. I have a 2008 dodge ram 1500 crew cab and I am thinking about upgrading to the Memphis 15-MCP10S4 and using the Alpine PDX-5 to power the system. Was wondering if anyone had suggestions comments? Thanks

what was going wrong with your system? depending on the issues you might be changing your equipment needlessly. for my money the alpine PDX is a very nice amp, i used to run a PDX-F4 4 channel on my speakers but it self destructed after about a year of working just fine. i know i wasnt making the amp work very hard and it only lasted a year and died for no apparent reason. but if i had the money id probably buy another one because the sound it gave me was awesome.

Well, my crossfire BMF W10D's are about 14 years old. The cone came seperated from the top ring last year, I'm assuming due to the overwhelming heat that we had, and my crossfire 4 channel amp had decided to stop working. It gets power, etc to it, but no sound through it. So, I tried to hook the Kenwood deck so the internel amp was wired directly to the speakers only to find out that the internal amp was fried. So, back to putting in the factory radio, which is powerless, until I figure out what to do. My thought is to upgrade to Memphis m-class subs, a clean powered 5 channel amp, and sell my crossfire 600D amp and one remaining subwoofer. I'm not too sure on what or how to fix the other sub and I'm sure that I could find out how on here, but would it be worth it for 14 year old subs?

ok you are definitely doing the right thing changing your system up. 5 channel amps are good for small systems, they usually dont give you more than 500 watts for the sub woofer channel so keep that in mind if you think you might want to upgrade again to something more powerful. that old crossfire is probably a much bigger amp than the 600 on its name plate so i would expect to hear a difference in output with the bass. either way it will be nicer than having a broken system.

Do you suppose the mephis subs could handle the VR600D? I was happy with that amp pushing my w10D's and I think the W10D's are only rated for 300 watt. I may have been pushing 600 to them with that amp. The subs were dual 4ohm voice coils and I hooked them up  in series with a sealed enclosure. The enclosure itself I had to do a lot of work to to keep it from flexing so much, but it ruined the "nice" look to the box once I tore it apart to add a center piece to help with the flexing and sprayed undercoating in it. That helped the SPL tremendously, but I'm more looking for a clean sound vs. SPL. I'm getting older, but I still like to enjoy my music and to be able to turn it up and hear a wonderful tone vs. distortion.  The only reason I'm looking so much at the PDX-5 is the power output matches the sub specs and my component specs, but I have very little knowledge of Memphis or of Apline, other than my first 1990's cd player. Do you think I would be better off fixing or replacing my VR404 and keeping the VR600D to push the Memphis subs? no i wouldnt fix that amp. if you buy those memphis subs in single 4 ohm voice coils then you will only get about half of the power that you were getting with those crossfire subs because those had dual 4 ohm voice coils which put your total ohm load at 1 ohm. the memphis subs will only be able to be wires as low as 2 ohms. so if anything those subs would be underpowered by either amp you chose to push them. if you can buy those memphis subs in a dual 4 ohm version that would be the way to go. as long as you set your gains properly you should be just fine using that crossfire amp on those subs.
