if you have a rectangular box and on one end you have a sub and on top you have a sub. can you turn the sub on top face side down into the box. will it work the same or will i blow the sub??? can you put one sub upside down -- posted image.

Yes you can its called inverting the sub. If you invert the sub it will be out of phase, to correct it you just reverse the polarity. So connect the - to the + and the + to the - on your amp instead of +to+ and - to -. Other than that it will be the same.

If I remember right from other posts, you will lose SPL by inverting the sub

Unless you test the car for SPL you will not be able to tell the difference without that reading.

And don't forget you have just increased the enclosure volume by the area inside the speaker cone.

Thanks DYohn forgot to tell you that you must subtract the subs displacement from the enclosures final volume. So if the sub has a displacement of .25 cu/ft and the recommended enclosure volume is 1.0cu/ft you would use .75cu/ft instead of 1.0cu/ft since you must subtract the displacement. Now to find out the subs displacement you can look in the owner’s manual or contact the manufacture.

another thing to remember is if you don't line the sub up perfectly over the hole you'll blow it from the surround rubbing on the edge of the hole. all in all i think it's pointless to invert subs.

you do lose SPL from inverting subs...I audibly lost SPL, and didnt need the RTA to tell me what I already knew...

I am not sure if you will be able to tell audibly if you only invert one sub, but if you do both, there will be a noticeable loss...
